Belén Berlanga Gutiérrez
Belén Berlanga was born into a family of artists. Her mother, Carmen Gutiérrez, was a ceramic artist at La Cartuja de Sevilla, while her father, Francisco Berlanga, is a renowned religious sculptor, sculptor, restorer, and gilder.
From an early age, she learned the secrets of the craft in her father’s workshop, where she collaborated on gilding projects. Her passion for art and scholarship led her to pursue a degree in Art History, graduating from the University of Seville. She further complemented her academic training by completing the specialised programme in Gilding and Artistic Polychromy at the School of Art of Seville.
She is a specialist in the preparation of wooden supports for subsequent gilding with fine gold leaf and burnishing techniques. She also possesses extensive expertise in other gilding methods, including burnished metal finishes, a la sisa gilding, and related traditional techniques.
In addition, she carries out burnished oil polychromy on sculptures and reliefs, as well as estofado decoration and oil painting on wooden panels and canvas.
